CAIDP Structure

The Center for AI and Digital Policy is a rapidly evolving organization. Our first AI policy clinic had a handful of participants. For our upcoming clinic, there were over 600 applicants. We set up this page to provide information about structure of CAIDP and the key terms we use for the organization.

 


The Groups

Participants at CAIDP typically join one of three groups:

  • The Research Group
  • The Policy Group
  • The Legal Group

CAIDP AI Policy Certification

We award three AI Policy certifications:

 

We award the CAIDP AI Policy Certificate to those who have completed a comprehensive AI Policy program, including research, writing, and policy analysis.


We award the CAIDP AI Policy Certificate Advanced to those who have successfully completed an advanced AI policy program, including presentation, briefing, and team coordination.


We award the CAIDP AI Policy Group Certificate to those who have successfully completed an advanced AI policy program that requires monitoring AI policy developments and providing policy advice to national governments and international organizations

 

CAIDP Fellows

The CAIDP Board of Directors each year designates a small number of individuals as CAIDP Fellows. These individuals have completed the introductory and advanced AI policy courses with distinction, demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication, and integrity, and worked to advance the mission of CAIDP.

 

CAIDP AI Policy Leaders

CAIDP gives out the Global AI Policy Leaders award in Academia, Business, Civil Society, and Government. Individuals will be recognized who have made outstanding contributions to the development and implementation of AI policies that advance fundamental rights, democratic values, and the rule of law.

 

Key Terms

 

AI and Democratic Values Index (AIDV). Our flagship report, providing a comparative analysis of AI policies and practices in countries around the world.

 

AI Policy Sourcebook (AIPS). This is a compilation of AI policies and resources, published by CAIDP.

 

Board Members. CAIDP is a non-profit, educational organization. The CAIDP board of directors is responsible for the governance and management of CAIDP.

 

Center for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP). CAIDP is an indepedent non-profit research and advocacy organization. 

 

Global Academic Network (GAN). These are academic experts in AI policy who advise CAIDP.

 

Instructors. The instructors are the lead educators for the Research Group. They design the syllabus, provide lectures, and certify those who complete the AI policy clinic courses.

 

Law Clerk (LC). Law Clerks are members of the Legal Group who are enrolled in law school.

 

Law Fellow (LF). Law Fellows are members of the Legal Group who have graduated from law school

 

Legal Group (LG). This group is responsible for monitoring legal opportunities for CAIDP and pursuing CAIDP legal matters, which include open government requests and amicus briefs.

 

Policy Group (PG) . This group is responsible for monitoring AI policy developments and preparing CAIDP policy statements. Policy Group Members (PGM) are admitted at the beginning of each semester.

 

Policy Group Coordinator (PGC). The Policy Group Coordinator is responsible for the management of the Policy Group and facilitating the work of the Policy Group Team Leaders.

 

Policy Group Team Leaders (PGTL). The PGTLs coordinate the work of individual Policy Group teams.

 

Research Group (RG). The Research Group Members (RGM) participate in the AI policy clinics, learns AI policy skills, and prepares analysis and updates for the Artificial Intelligence and Democratic Values Index. Policy Group members are admitted at the beginning of each semester.

 

Research Group Team Leaders (RGTL). The RGTLs coordinate the work of individual Research Group teams

 

Senior Policy Groups Members - These are participants in the Policy Group who continue with the group across semesters.

 

Subscribers. CAIDP publishes AI policy news in the weekly CAIDP Update. Subscribers are those who receive the CAIDP Update.

 

Teaching Fellows (TF) - The Teaching Fellows are responsible for managing the Research Group and facilitating the work of the Research Group Team Leaders.

 

Universal Guidelines for AI (UGAI). The UGAI is a widely endorsed framework for the governance of AI that CAIDP actively promotes.
